Argyll Quilt Top Completed!

I just finished my Argyll Quilt top!  I really enjoyed piecing this quilt.  It came to a size of 82.5"X 97".

Although I enjoyed piecing this quilt, it was not all sunshine and rainbows.  I started it with my old sewing machine which I realized later took a slightly larger quarter inch seam than my new sewing machine.  This took a bit of fiddling to get the units to match up.  Then I had to do quite a bit of squaring up because it was not square at all.  I ended up trimming a bit more than I'd like to get it squared up.  There's nothing that drives me more nuts than off grain fabric or unsquared quilt tops!

This quilt has mitered borders which are a bit more work but totally worth the effect.  I like how they frame the quilt like a piece of art.

With the sun shining through, it reminds me of a stained glass window.

I can't wait to quilt this!  I'd like to do a wool batting for this and machine quilt along the seam lines.
Update coming when it's quilted!

Happy Sewing and Quilting!

Argyll Quilt etc.

Wow, has it ever been a while since my last post.  I haven't been doing much garment sewing because I got into a quilting phase again.  I can't help when it hits me, it just does, and I go along with it because it's fun!
I've been working on my Argyll Quilt.  I've been really enjoying making the different units and then arranging them on my design wall.  It's amazing to see the pattern emerge by positioning the units a certain way.
I just have a few more of the setting triangles to make then I can start sewing them together.

I recently vacationed in Kauai, Hawaii; so of course, I had to visit the local quilt shops.  I'm completely enamoured with Hawaiian quilting, so I had to see what they offered. I did a post all about it while I was there.  I got this kit which had a Hawaiian quilt cushion pattern basted and ready to appliqué.  The kit came with a book and a spool of matching thread.  How handy!

This is what I've been playing with the last couple days.  Sashiko stitching!  This is a Sylvia Pippen Designs kit which includes sashiko and appliqué.  I've been really enjoying this.  It's so very relaxing.
Another Hawaiian Quilting book!

Well, that's what I've been up to lately.  I'm sure I'll get back into garment sewing very soon.  Until then,
Happy Quilting!
